SaaS has fundamentally changed security requirements. We used to just go into work, and everything—corporate applications, sensitive customer data, employee health records, etc.—was within the “safe” four walls of the corporate network behind a firewall. Now employees work remotely and use mobile devices, including unmanaged, personal devices. They access SaaS apps that live in the cloud without any sort of firewall that IT can use to monitor and manage access. Prominent examples include Salesforce.com, Google Apps, Office 365, Box, and many others. As employees use these SaaS apps, they are creating proprietary company data, often confidential in nature, that exists outside the control of IT, creating new challenges for security teams. In this new world, IT needs to track sensitive corporate data in third-party SaaS apps, and ensure that only the right people have the right level of access to it. In this whitepaper, we’ll explain ten steps on how to do that

It has been said that you can’t manage what you can’t measure, and you must measure what really matters. New service delivery models for IT service management, such as software as a service (SaaS), as well as emerging communications channels for support that include social media, will require some changes to the way you traditionally measure the effectiveness of your services. That’s why you should reexamine your service metrics as you begin to rely more heavily on SaaS, social media, and a more services-oriented approach to IT delivery.

According to Gartner, 50 percent of all new IT service desk tool purchases will utilize the cloud model by 2015. Yet service delivery via the cloud can adversely affect IT’s ability to meet an organization’s requirements. The adoption of cloud-based solutions demands that the business take a look at the skills needed for success, the delivery channels that must be realigned, and the potential effects on the business. The market has been and will continue to be inundated with a plethora of IT service management (ITSM) vendors creating solutions dedicated to supporting cloud-based service management. In this article, we discuss why this is the case, as well as the benefits an organization can achieve by moving to a cloud-based environment.

The world’s largest organizations are adopting cloudbased infrastructure and services at a dizzying pace. Software as a service (SaaS) offerings such as Salesforce.com and Microsoft Office 365 are among the more popular cloud-based services. When moving services to the cloud, data centers are no longer local, so the end user experience can suffer. A poor or congested Internet connection between the user and the cloud service will mean sluggish application delivery that puts a damper on user productivity and ultimately threatens application usage.
